EMPLOYMENT NOTICE

 

Valley Career & Technical Center (VCTC) is seeking a full-time instructor for our practical nursing program. As part of the nursing faculty, the instructor is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising components within the approved practical nursing curriculum. The curriculum shall provide each student with specific learning experiences necessary to obtain licensure as a Practical Nurse within a framework of state licensure requirements/competencies.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The Practical Nursing Instructor shall (i) hold a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse without any disciplinary action that currently restricts practice and (ii) have had at least two years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse prior to employment by the program.


A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is highly recommended.  The majority of the members of the nursing faculty shall hold a baccalaureate degree, preferably with a major in nursing (18VAC90-27-60). It is recommended that faculty seek professional development and continuing education through workshops, conferences, lectures, seminars, in-service programs, academic courses, graduate study, professional writing, or research projects. All faculty members are encouraged to be members of and participate in professional education and nursing organizations

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for ensuring successful academic and personal development of practical nursing students through didactic and clinical instruction
  • Provides classroom and/or clinical instruction utilizing various and appropriate teaching strategies
  • Creates an environment that is student-centered which fosters academic growth and guidance of professional development
  • Encourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum. Faculty shall provide evidence of education and experience necessary to indicate that they are competent to teach a given course.
  • Develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the VCTC framework
  • Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students in accordance with requirements of the Financial Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC § 1232g)
  • Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness
  • Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty, students, administration, and community
  • Demonstrate positive and model behaviors expected by a professional nurse and educator
  • Completes and submits all continuing education units/hours to program director upon completion
  • Participates and documents activities in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, HOSA activities, and graduation ceremony

 

This is a fulltime position to begin July 17.   Salary based on a 220 day, 7.5 hours day teacher contract scale with administrative stipend.
