Health Occupations Program Coordinator

VCTC is seeking a full-time program coordinator for our practical nursing program, certified nursing aide programs, and other health occupation programs. The Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of curriculum development, budgetary needs and educational resources, and the establishment of all clinical agency contracts and clinical schedules. The Coordinator reports to the School’s Administration, VCTC’s Board of Trustees, and the Administration of Augusta County Public schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Program Coordinator shall hold an unencumbered license as a registered nurse or a multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in the Commonwealth, with the additional education and experience necessary to administer, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing education program (18VAC90-20-70). The successful candidate will hold a minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. A Masters in Nursing or Nursing Education is preferred. It is recommended that the Coordinator seek and model professional development and continuing education through opportunities for workshops, conferences, lectures, seminars, in-service programs, academic courses, graduate study, or research projects. The Coordinator will monitor all faculty members’ participation in professional education and nursing organizations.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements all policies and procedures in accordance to the VCTC Nursing Handbook
- Oversees the implementation of the program and curriculum
- Works with VCTC’s Financial Officer to recommend/manage the program budget
- Evaluate and determine the necessary educational resources needed to support program goals
- Conduct regular faculty and annual advisory board meetings and other meetings as needed
- Responsible for maintaining relationships/contracts/schedules with clinical agencies
- Responsible for ensuring successful academic and personal development of practical nursing students through didactic and clinical instruction
- Oversees classroom and/or clinical instruction to determine if various and appropriate teaching strategies are being used by all faculty members
- Creates an environment that is student-centered which fosters academic growth and conducive to professional development
- Encourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development
- Maintains and exhibits good physical and mental health
- Manages the learning environment through accurate record keeping, submission of grades and other reports on time, as well as the enforcement of school/program’s academic and attendance policies
- Provides theory, practices and principles of the science of nursing and adult education
- Determine specific learning needs for all students
- Responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process through a variety of evaluation tools. Conducts informal and formal surveys using both written and online surveys
- Serve as a resource to faculty, students, administration, and community
- Provide student conferences to discuss academic progress and student concerns
- Sets the standards for admission through the active involvement in recruitment and selection of prospective nursing students through administering admission testing, collection of all required admission paperwork, conducts brief applicant interviews, and recommends applicants for program admission
- Maintains all student criminal background, drug screen, and immunization records
- Responsible for faculty, clinical facility, and comprehensive program evaluations
- Recommends the hiring and termination of faculty and clinical instructors to school administration
- Reviews program objectives and competencies to ensure the curriculum is current and up-to-date
- Prepares all Virginia Board of Nursing Reports
- Maintains accurate record keeping of all faculty members immunizations, health records, CPR certifications, and continuing education/contact hours
- Organizes and participates in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, HOSA activities, and graduation ceremony
